I was asked by my long-time friend, Aidan Chun, whom I’ve known since high school, to write him a bassoon piece as part of his college senior performance recital. Those who know him know he loves his low notes, so I’ve made that the primary focus of this work. “Turbulent Mazes” is about navigating the complex emotions and inner conflicts that sometimes flood our mind. It’s about the moments of unrest followed by stints of calm that altogether feel overwhelming at times.
