I’ve always wanted to try my hand at a piece about tragedy, loss, and pain. The title derives from these complex feelings we experience every so often. Whether it be a loss of a loved one, friends becoming more distant, a breakup, or moving away from home, we experience these intense and raw emotions. Eventually, we must move on from our current state and shift as the tides do on a calm beach.
The mood of this piece is also fitting because I’m writing it for my last reading session and rehearsal with The Chapman Orchestra (TCO). It has been an incredible four years in this ensemble and three years as manager, and now it’s time for me and my fellow seniors to graduate and move on! Being a part of this group has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and meet so many friendly faces; I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Thanks, TCO.
